POSITION SUMMARY
The Research Director is responsible for designing and overseeing research projects to inform and evaluate behavior change programs. Duties include leading and mentoring research teams, developing research approaches and tools, overseeing research implementation, analyzing data, and preparing reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in behavioral sciences (e.g., social psychology, conservation psychology, behavioral economics, or closely related discipline). Equivalent experience will be considered.
5+ years’ experience in research management.
Extensive quantitative experience with behavioral and attitudinal research, including surveys, experimental research methods, and observational research.
Familiarity with qualitative research methods such as focus groups and in-depth interviewing.
Demonstrated proficiency in project management, budgeting, planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.
Experience supervising, mentoring, and coordinating project teams.
Demonstrated experience clearly communicating the results of research activities to key stakeholders, verbally and through technical reports.
Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
Self-motivated, and decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
Technically competent with various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and statistical packages (SPSS or R).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research
Plan, propose, and conduct research and statistical analysis of data related to awareness and behavior change programs in the areas of environmental, health, and public safety in accordance with established best practices.
Design survey instruments and other tools for data collection.
Develop methodologies for field experiments and message testing.
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and prepare technical reports with appropriate tables, charts, and written summaries.
Moderate focus groups and conduct in-depth interviews.
Maintain integrity of data throughout all phases including extraction, processing, storage, manipulation, and analysis.
Develop research materials with input from managers and directors.
Project Direction
Responsible for hiring, supervision, and oversight of all research staff.
Oversee audience research activities.
Direct and oversee the effective implementation of research project activities.
Establish and cultivate relationships with clients.
Communicate project status, obstacles, and research process to clients.
Lead the preparation of verbal and written reports.
Ensure timeliness and quality of project deliverables.
Ensure client satisfaction with project deliverables.
Ensure all client requests and correspondence receive a timely response.
Stay current on research design, implementation, and analysis best practices.
