Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science (MPSDS) is launching the James M. Lepkowski Junior Faculty Research Support Award Program in honor of its founding director, James M. Lepkowski. This program offers research support to the selected junior faculty members at the Institute for Social Research by providing a master’s level Research Assistant, a current MPSDS student, for an academic year.

Purpose:
The award will support the assignment of RAs from the MPSDS program (master’s students), to junior faculty members at the University of Michigan for an academic year. This offers research support to the selected faculty and a training opportunity to selected MPSDS students.
Cost:
MPSDS will fund an amount equivalent to an hourly research assistant half-time (20 hours per week) research assistant appointment for an academic year.
Eligibility:
- Any junior faculty at the rank of an assistant professor, a research assistant professor, an assistant research scientist or a research investigator whose primary appointment is at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan
- Whose research requires support in social science methods, data collection or data analysis.
Application process:
- Submit a package to [email protected] with the following:
- Proposal (no more than 2 pages) with the following sections:
- 1) a project overview,
- 2) expected research assistant responsibilities,
- 3) required as well as desired skills for research assistants,
- 4) a training/mentoring plan, and
- 5) a research product that involves selected research assistants and its dissemination plan.
